As a Lead Laboratory Technologist, you will support advanced molecular diagnostic testing in a highly specialized laboratory focused on oncology and hematology. This role functions as a senior Medical Technologist and contributes to one or more responsibility tracks, including education, development, and technical resource support, while helping maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows.
The position is hands-on and fast-paced, involving manual, high-volume DNA extraction from blood and tissue samples in a non-automated environment. Precision and consistency are critical, as samples move through multiple preparation stages before final analysis on specialized instruments. Strong attention to detail and excellent pipetting skills are essential for success in this niche molecular diagnostics setting.
A caregiver in this position works days, Tuesday through Saturday/8:00am—4:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform laboratory testing compliantly and maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness of specific job duties.

Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

Assume responsibility for and acts regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties. Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

Perform proficiency testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director.

Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

In the Educational track: functions as an educator and provides instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and the application of laboratory test protocols to students, employees, and residents.

Conduct lab specific orientation for new employees and develop and coordinate laboratory continuing education program.

Assist in the validation/verification of new assays under the direction of the Medical Director. Perform validation/verification analysis, collect, and analyze data and prepare for Medical Director review.

Write technical procedure, submit to Medical Director for review and the Laboratory Director for approval.

Train medical technologists in new testing procedures, assist with implementation of newly developed clinical tests.

Effectively resolves daily technical and theoretical problems; solves technical problems; serves as a technical resource for the laboratory testing personnel, supervisors, and staff.

Recognize and resolve complex technical problems and provide or seek viable, appropriate solutions.

Perform and oversee troubleshooting and repair of assigned laboratory instruments/equipment/procedures.

Assist with ensuring that procedure manuals are up to date and that annual reviews of procedure manuals are conducted.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Pattern I: Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution AND three years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing

Pattern II: Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel

See Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, § 493.1489 Standard, High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications AND have at least three years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in non-waived testing

Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided. Education will be verified

Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from by an HHS approved agency or nationally recognized organization such as NACES (National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc) OR AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc)

If the required clinical laboratory training and experience occurred at an outside facility, a signed, official letter from the facility or organization is required which details the dates and laboratory discipline experience and training.

Clinical laboratory training or experience can be met by: 1. Medical technology internship 2. Full time experience performing non-waived testing for the required number of years 3. Part-time experience performing non-waived testing, with 2080 hours equivalent to one year

Medical Technologist, such as, MT(ASCP) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) eligible

Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $33.46
Maximum hourly: $51.03
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
