The histology section of the Imaging Core provides 33 specialized services, including tissue processing, sectioning, and a wide range of routine and special stains. As a Shared Laboratory Resources Specialist III, you will perform a variety of laboratory activities at a high scientific complexity level, serving as a key resource for operations and research customers. In this role, you will provide training and guidance to other employees on proper procedures and SOPs, equipment maintenance, and complete special projects as assigned. You will also create amendments to existing SOPs and develop new SOPs as needed. This position requires consistently demonstrating advanced knowledge of protocols and guiding principles, applying them to experiments with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with flexible start and end times.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Lead and participate in training of other employees in proper procedures or SOPs, maintenance of equipment or other duties and complete special projects as assigned.

Demonstrate proficient and advanced knowledge of protocols and guiding principles as well as apply protocols to experiments.

Draft amendments to SOPs and create drafts of new SOPs.

Perform the required standard operating procedures of the Core Research Facility with minimal supervision.
-
Operate or guide Core users in utilizing the facility's specialized equipment and services in support of user needs.
-
Ensure smooth flow and quality of daily work within the lab and ensure compliance regarding Institute, sponsor and federal rules and regulations.

Plan, conduct and evaluate experiments and essays or other activities of varying and/or up to high scientific complexities.

Calculate, record, compile, analyze, report and interpret data.
-
Perform quality assurance on all assigned activities per procedures or SOPs.
-
May enter services for billing purposes with accuracy in the Core Facility's automated service/billing system.

May assist in invoicing clients to services rendered.

Maintain established laboratory inventories, ordering materials as necessary.

Prepare and operate equipment for experiments, essays, measurements, etc.
-
Maintain instrumentation and equipment used in services provided by the Core Facility.

Maintain and perform basic equipment repairs, in compliance with manufacturer and Institute guidelines.

Troubleshoot instrumentation and equipment problems.
-
Clean and perform general maintenance on equipment.

Execute and facilitate delivery of specialized services.
-
Assist with specimen processing, embedding, cutting and staining tissues, both paraffin and frozen.

Provide inexperienced histology users with basic information about specimen preparation, staining methods and staining interpretation.

Provide essential back-up, keeping the histology service running when the senior histologist is absent.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field and two years of experience

OR High School Diploma and eight years of directly related experience
-
OR Associate degree and six years of experience
-
OR Master's Degree in an appropriate scientific field
-
Certification in appropriate field may be required per department or core protocol within one year of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Masters in relevant scientific field

Detailed knowledge and experience with histology methods/techniques and practices/procedures

Comfortable working with animals and humans

Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $47,530.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $72,475.00
