    Cleveland Clinic apprenticeship programs enable you to learn while you earn as you gain valuable skills and certifications to build a meaningful and rewarding career. Exploring a new path and growing your skills can sometimes feel overwhelming. But, as a Cleveland Clinic apprentice, you will never be alone. You will be a part of a supportive team, learning and growing together, with a dedicated mentor to help you get to the finish line.

    Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

    In our Ophthalmic Assistant Apprenticeship, you will be surrounded by caregivers who want to see you succeed and deliver excellent care. You will:

    • Prepare patients for examination and treatment, under the direction of a supervisor or Certified ophthalmologist.
    • Perform initial examinations and ophthalmic testing procedures.
    • Assist with related examinations/procedures.
    • Document patient information in the patient medical record.
    • Receive guidance on taking the Certification Exam.

    Once you pass your Certification Exam, you will have the nationally recognized credentials to be eligible for a position as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant at Cleveland Clinic.

    Pharmacy Technician

    Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology is one of the only accredited, hospital-based Pharmacy Technician schools in the country. During your apprenticeship, we will be here to help prepare you to meet the needs of an expanding pharmacy practice. You will:

    • Gain knowledge in packaging, preparation and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records.
    • Receive hands-on training in a state-of-the-art learning environment.
    • Experience a variety of both inpatient and outpatient practice settings.

    This is an accelerated program which allows you to graduate in 18 weeks. You will have the opportunity to work in pharmacies at our Main Campus and regional hospitals, while also completing coursework at our School of Pharmacy Technology. At the end of the program, you will receive a diploma in Pharmacy Technology and be prepared to take and pass your national certification test.

    Polysomnographic Technologist

    During our Polysomnographic Technologist Apprenticeship program at our Sleep Lab, you will learn how to perform overnight sleep assessments in our eight-bed sleep center for diagnosing various sleep disorders. This includes:

    • Interviewing patients to determine sleep disorder issues.
    • Performing and documenting state-of-the-art testing.
    • Monitoring patients throughout testing, and intervening as necessary to resolve issues.
    • Scoring, interpreting and reporting results of sleep studies.

    With our strong coaching and mentoring, you will be well prepared to interview with us as well as take the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists (BRPT) exam.

    Sterile Processing Technician

    Cleveland Clinic’s Sterile Processing Technician Apprenticeship will provide you with the world’s best experience in all areas of sterile processing. In this full-time, paid apprenticeship, you will:

    • Become familiar with all areas of sterile processing and the surgical suite.
    • Become proficient in identifying and inspecting instrumentation.
    • Learn to complete the appropriate documentation required for sterilization.

    Throughout the program, you will enjoy the support and mentoring of highly skilled and experienced caregivers. At the end of your apprenticeship, you will be qualified to successfully complete the University of Akron program and pass the Certified Registered Central Service Technician test.

    Electroencephalogram (EEG)

    This one-year Apprenticeship Program will expose you to all the cutting-edge technology and meaningful work that EEG Technologists do each day. You’ll learn about the electro-neurodiagnostic field, brain anatomy, the role of the technologist, and relevant diagnostic procedures used to monitor a patient’s brain and nervous system. You’ll also:

    • Training to perform electroencephalographic examinations and epilepsy monitoring.
    • Calibrate and adjust equipment.
    • Observe patients with video and digital recording equipment.
    • Apply electrodes, respiration monitors and EKG.
    • Obtain patient information.
    • Prepare for the ABRET Registered EEG Technologist exam.

    After working as an apprentice for a year, you’ll become a Non-Registered Monitoring Technician. Once you take and pass the exam, you’ll be a Registered EEG Technician and can apply for a rewarding career with Cleveland Clinic. You can then advance to become an EEG reader, magnetoencephalography (MEG) technologist, intra-operative monitoring technologist, and trainer of future EEG technologists.
