The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer manages radiation safety field operations across the Florida market, based primarily at Weston with routine travel to regional facilities. This role ensures all activities involving radioactive materials comply with regulatory requirements and Cleveland Clinic policies while maintaining exposures to workers and the public as low as reasonably achievable. The position supports and oversees radiation-related operations throughout Florida, providing on-site guidance, compliance oversight, and operational support for any radiation use.
A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm with occasional weekends.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Supervise Medical Health Physicists and technical staff.
- Assign, review, and approve work.
- Assist with recruitment, promotions, discipline and annual performance reviews.
- Establish performance expectations and goals for staff.
- Prepare and implement written procedures for the various radiation safety field activities.
- Respond to and investigate over-exposures, accidents, spills, losses, thefts, unauthorized receipts, uses, transfers, disposals, misadministrations and other deviations from approved radiation safety practices.
- Implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Work with authorized users and department administrators to ensure compliance with the various requirements, ensure radiation exposures are as low as reasonably achievable, and resolve any issues related to radiation safety field operations.
- Perform as a Medical Health Physicist as necessary to achieve department goals and satisfy management expectations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Master's degree (MS) in health physics, medical health physics or a closely related area of study (Other degrees and specialties may be considered based upon the applicants experience)
- Valid State driver’s license is required
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Certified Health Physicist (CHP) by American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or Certified Medical Health Physics (MHP) by American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP)
- At least five years of responsible professional experience in health physics, including at least three years in applied health physics and at least one year at a large academic-medical center
Physical Requirements:
- Requires extensive standing, walking, and driving to various locations on and off campus.
- Requires physical senses, mobility and strength sufficient to operate PC computer and assorted field equipment, and handle items up to 50 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $92,620.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $141,265.00
