Responsibilities:
- Manages the professional staff development of Respiratory Therapy personnel and prepares them to provide a high level of Respiratory care for patients.
- Develops and implements programming that will enhance and upgrade the cognitive and technical skills of all Respiratory Therapists and enable them to function in a clinical role on the nursing units by providing appropriate Respiratory care.
- Develops curriculum for enterprise-wide integration activities, including standardizing orientation and on-boarding for new Respiratory Therapists. Facilitates State of Ohio continuing education for Respiratory Therapists, including maintaining records for continuing education programs, administering programs, communicating availability of programs within and outside the institution.
- Manages the Department of Respiratory Therapy Internship program, high school shadowing, and senior project programs.
- Manages affiliation contracts and activities of Respiratory Therapy students from area colleges of Respiratory Therapy, including introductory and advanced Respiratory Therapy practice experiences for all CCHS Hospitals.
- Represents the Department of Respiratory Therapy on the Allied Health Education Council, and other appropriate committees as directed by the Director of Respiratory Therapy.
- Performs duties of the Respiratory Therapist positions, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy; Master's Degree in Public Health, Education, or Business preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Certifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Ohio Respiratory Care Board licensure. BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and/or Neonatal Pediatric Specialist certification preferred.
Competencies (Complexity of Work):
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Ability to work productively in a changing environment, while dealing courteously with colleagues, professional staff, patients, visitors, and other health professionals within and outside of the organization.
- Must demonstrate competency with high acuity situations and advanced RT interventions including non-traditional modes of ventilation, oscillator, and medication delivery.
Work Experience:
- Internal candidates: Three years of in depth knowledge of Respiratory Therapy educational needs in a large tertiary care medical center as well as a minimum of 2 years experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- External candidates: Minimum of 6 years experience in hospital Respiratory Therapy, including a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience and in depth knowledge of Respiratory Therapy educational needs in a large tertiary care medical center.
Physical Requirements:
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment.
- Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
- May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $37.33
Maximum hourly: $37.33
