As a Lead Patient Transporter, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service to our patients, as you will be playing an essential role in helping them receive the care they need, while leading other Patient Transporters. Patients enjoy communicating with the transporters because the conversation is not clinically focused and can help to get their mind off of why they are there. In this role, you will quickly become familiar with all areas of the hospital while leaving lasting impressions on patients and visitors.
A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Act as a technical resource for team members.

Collaborate with management to achieve organizational goals.

Facilitate departmental goals.

Perform activities related to transporting patients and equipment.
-
Monitor caregivers in daily operations.
-
Provide orientation, education and training for new hires.
-
Communicate with caregivers and provide orientation on policies.
-
Analyze workflow and procedures.
-
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and effectiveness of processes.

Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas via wheelchair, stretcher or beds as requested to include transport of patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment.

With assistance, transfer patients to or from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers as needed.

Transport patients to hospital lobby and open doors during the patient discharge process.

Approach, greet and offer assistance and direction to patients and visitors in the hospital environment.

Communicate to nursing personnel, clinician, technician or receptionist of patient's arrival and departure.

Verify correct patient identification by comparing information from pager to patient wristband, obtain correct medical chart, verify proper mode of transportation and confirm standard precautions.

Disinfect and maintain par levels of equipment throughout the hospital.

Identify malfunctioning ambulatory equipment and report to appropriate department for repair or replacement.

Round throughout the hospital environment for departmental equipment and deliver to the appropriate staging area.

Collect pertinent information and report patient complaints to the appropriate clinician/Supervisor/Manager.

Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures, patient and safety emergency procedures and proper body mechanics to safely move patients.

Complete training in the applicable patient transport software application within 30 days, including the patient transport and reporting module.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High School Diploma or GED
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

One to two years of experience as a Patient Transporter in a medical setting or experience in a hospital setting with patient through-put systems OR Associate’s Degree
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:

Requires handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.

Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working with some exposure to communicable disease.

Successful completion of body mechanics training within 30 days of hire.
Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
