As a Genetic Counselor, you will provide genetic counseling, risk assessment, information, and support to individuals and families affected by genetic disorders, as well as those who may be at risk for inherited conditions. In this role, you will coordinate genetic testing, disclose results to patients and referring providers, and provide genetic counseling to a wide range of pediatric and adult patients in the general genetics clinic. There is opportunity for clinical specialization, with needs in the areas of neurology, benign hematology, and immune genetics. Genetic counselors are supported by a large, experienced team of more than 30 genetic counselors and 10 physicians that thrive on collaboration and open communication, and participation in education and research is encouraged. Current trainees and genetic counselors at all skill levels are welcome to apply, and a career ladder is in place with multiple salary levels based on experience.
Genetic counselors have the ability to work autonomously while benefiting from the support of a large, experienced team. Individuals can develop expertise in specific clinical areas and pursue additional interests, such as research, education, or community outreach.
A caregiver in this position works a hybrid schedule from 8:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.
This role is primarily based at Main Campus, with a portion of time available for remote work.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Perform genetic counseling functions in accordance with the Scope of Practice established by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

Provide genetic counseling services to patients/families with a known or suspected genetic disorder.

Coordinate genetic testing and disclose results to patients and/or providers.

Complete documentation for patient care.

Become familiar with the electronic medical record (EMR).
-
Build time management skills to balance workload and responsibilities.
-
Maintain compliance with IRB and department research standards.
-
Demonstrate familiarity with current literature.
-
Contribute to research projects, abstracts, or manuscripts.
-
Become familiar with the department’s educational materials.
-
Present at case conferences, journal clubs, or similar meetings.
-
Supervise genetic counseling for students during rotations.
-
Provide lectures and presentations to trainees and other medical professionals.
-
Contribute to educational programs.
-
Attend multidisciplinary care meetings, grand rounds and/or tumor board meetings.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Master’s Degree from an accredited genetic counseling training program
-
Certified or certification-eligible from American Board of Genetic Counseling
-
Licensed or license-eligible from Ohio Medical Board required

Must obtain ABGC certification within one year of date of hire

Clinical rotations as part of genetic counseling training program

Will consider applicants who have not yet completed their training
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Experience or interest in general genetics

Desire to work in direct patient care and contribute to the field of genetic counseling

Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $52,270.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $79,727.50
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
