As a Clinical Pharmacist in Cardiology, you will be coordinating and providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care for patients while actively participating in patient care rounds with medical staff. This position also offers opportunities to cross-train in general inpatient services and the IV room. Responsibilities include managing medication therapy for general cardiology patients, thoracic pre- and post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, as well as heart and lung transplant recipients. A caregiver in this role will work evening shifts from 11:00am to 7:30pm, 2:00pm to 10:30pm or 1:30pm to 10:00pm. 1 holiday per year will be required and there are no weekend requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services
- Verify medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
- Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
- Actively contribute to medication safety initiatives.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
- Directs staff appropriately to provide safe and efficient care and maintain professional working relationships with all caregivers.
- Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers and/or patients.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
- Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire
- For individuals required to administer immunizations, current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required
- For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events, current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross, or certification obtained within one (1) year of hire, is required
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Board Certification
- Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
- Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area (i.e. Critical Care, Oncology)
