  • On the Move in Your Nursing Career

    Whether you’re still in nursing school and imagining your career possibilities or you’re an experienced RN exploring your professional options, we can help you take the next step while supporting you every step of the way.

    For experienced RNs or new grads who have completed a one-year residency with us, we offer a choice of four specialty tracks that allow you to develop your skills in a specific area of care. These nursing career paths include:

    • Clinical Expert – This is one of our most popular tracks, with many nurses choosing to become a resource nurse or champion. Options include becoming a diabetic mentor, skin resource nurse, technology super user and more. Within this track, nurses learn a sampling of the 100+ specialties in nursing at Cleveland Clinic.
    • Advanced Practice – You will explore the paths you can take as an APRN to provide preventive or primary care services to patients. You will also learn about the responsibilities and requirements of the role.
    • Beyond Bedside Care – Specialize in an area of nursing practice outside of direct patient care in areas that include Risk Management, Infection Prevention, Nursing Research, Nursing Education Leadership Track and more.
    • Leadership Track – In addition to the above specialty tracks, you may also choose to pursue a Leadership track, which will help you meet your professional leadership goals for the roles of Clinical Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager/Nursing Operations Manager and Nursing Director. Educational offerings include recommended and elective courses and leadership experience/exposure opportunities.

    Each track provides developmental courses, experiential learning and supporting activities.

    Cleveland Clinic has more than 200 specialties for you to explore, including oncology, urology, cardiovascular, neurology and more. No matter which area you choose, you will have the chance to develop your skills as you work on complex cases you won’t see anywhere else. You will treat everyone from patients here for routine procedures or non-serious conditions to those who need our care the most. You will also continue to learn and grow in a culture of belonging, lifelong learning and wellness.

    Our professional ladder recognizes caregivers’ commitment to quality outcomes and patient safety. Designed to encourage career progression and achievement, the ladder program rewards nurses and other licensed and non-licensed caregivers who demonstrate a desire to heighten their clinical skills, education, competencies and professional expertise.

    It is established on a “novice to expert” philosophy that revolves around the five stages of clinical competence: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient and expert. Participants progress up the five rungs of Cleveland Clinic’s professional ladder by meeting defined criteria of clinical excellence, skills and competence, professional expertise and educational attainment.

    The Cleveland Clinic Nurse Leadership Academy provides defined learning pathways, programs and resources to foster growth along the continuum of nurse leadership – anywhere from newly promoted Nurse Managers through executive level roles. Our goal is to set the standard for nurturing and empowering nursing leaders who will drive excellence to innovate and transform healthcare.

    The academy allows nurse leaders to deepen expertise, gain experience, build relationships and immerse themselves in experiences that will prepare them for future roles throughout the organization.

Financial Support

For nurses seeking a supportive and empathetic work environment, Cleveland Clinic offers professional development and growth through tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment and relocation assistance. In addition, we provide loan repayment for select RN jobs at all U.S. Cleveland Clinic locations. Our Loan Repayment Program will help cover your education costs when you receive an ADN or BSN from a nationally or regionally accredited U.S.-based education institution. Full-time nurses receive up to a $15,750 maximum lifetime benefit and part-time nurses receive up to a $7,500 lifetime benefit.

Personalized Orientation Plan

We will individualize your orientation, help you build on your experience and create a guide for your professional path. You will get an introduction to everything from electronic medical records and ECG interpretation to our regulations, practices, initiatives and protocols.

PRN/Flexible Schedule Nursing

We offer a variety of PRN shifts (staggered shift start times, flexible schedule lengths, specialized assignments, etc.). We are committed to giving you the flexibility you need, no matter your life situation, to provide our patients with outstanding care.

Float Pool

Cleveland Clinic Staffing Resources (CCSR) gives you the opportunity to care for patients in various Critical Care Units. As an RN, you will provide patient care through the application of sound nursing practices and procedures to patients of all ages. RNs utilize competency in behavioral, growth and development and psychosocial needs of the population served.
