The Registered Nurse assigned to the Emergency Department/Observation Unit will demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide competent care to the emergency patient, based upon nursing process and assessed physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs as appropriate to the age of the patient.  The Emergency nurse regularly cares for patients of all ages (newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric).

Works under the supervision of the Manager, Emergency Services.  The registered nurse assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual care in the Emergency Department/Observation Unit according to organizational policies and procedures.  The registered nurse will accept responsibility for direction of co-workers and be able to adapt and cope in stressful and crisis situations.  Provides clinical leadership for patient care.  Within the level of the individual’s qualifications, may be assigned to work on other nursing units based upon patient activity and staff distribution.  Performs other duties as assigned.


1.   Nursing Degree (A.D., Diploma, BSN, etc.) from an accredited School of Nursing.

2.   Licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio.

3.   Completion of a cardiac monitoring course and ACLS preferred (must achieve within one year of hire/transfer).

4.   Emergency Department experience preferred.

5.   Emergency Department Certification desired.

6.   Excellent clinical and organizational skills.

7.   Excellent interpersonal skills/ability to work well with people projecting a positive image for the Hospital.

8.   Ability to lift moderate weights.

9.  Computer experience preferred.

10. Knowledge and adherence to the Hospital’s I CARE Standards.
