The Certified Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to include evaluation of injuries, staff/patient education and pre-season evaluations; coordinates treatment of acute athletic injuries; and provides athletic training coverage for high school & collegiate settings.

Position Requirements

  • Attends sports practices and games as assigned, evaluating athletics for on-field injuries and expediting referral of athletes to physician for medical evaluation.
  • Coordinates acute injury and coaches clinics, providing training to supportive personnel in the school systems.
  • Administers therapeutic modalities under the direction of a physician.
  • Provides evaluation of sports related injuries and assists with physician referral.
  • Directs the assistance of support staff in order to achieve the patient’s functional goals.
  • Develops comprehensive rehabilitation plans with short and long term goals.
  • Reviews patient’s functional needs and adjusts care plan as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcome.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to provide supervision of athletic teams’ practice and competitive events.
  • Demonstrates competency to provide age specific care.
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates functional needs and outcomes, consults with other specialists as needed.
  • Designs and implements a plan of care for the patient based on a thorough assessment of potential development and incorporates participation by significant others whenever it seems appropriate.
  • Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
  • Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcomes
  • Practices established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans. Regularly updates documentation and maintains all required prescriptions and signatures.
  • Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on current professional literature.
  • Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote physical therapy within the community.

Physical Demands

Medium Work: Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly.

Educational, Licensure, & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training required.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Sport specific training experience preferred.
  • CPR required.
  • Licensure or licensure eligibility from the Ohio Physical Therapy, Athletic Training Board required.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainer's Association required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
