Develops and establishes strategic plan and standards for nursing practice including; mechanisms to ensure uniform quality, adherence to standards and ensures nursing care is provided according to quality, licensing and accreditation standards. Plans, organizes, leads and evaluates assigned patient care services. Collaborates with executive hospital management as a key member of medical and planning committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategic plan for nursing including; mechanisms to ensure uniform quality and adherence to standards.
  • Leads the design and implementation of assigned business plans.
  • Develops annual operating objectives.
  • Collaborates with hospital and medical staff to develop and measure performance standards.
  • Creates continuous improvement environment promoting innovative patient care delivery and current research findings.
  • Develops and mentors nursing leaders.
  • Directs staff to achieve hospital goals, nursing objectives and nursing practice standards.
  • Hires, develops, rewards and evaluates staff.
  • Ensures nursing plan provides for uniform quality nursing care and nursing process is foundation for provision of nursing care.
  • Ensures safety, health and regulatory standards are attained.
  • Designs administrative structure to maximize productivity and quality.
  • Measures actual budgetary performance against standards and ensures variances are within established targets.
  • Leader is accountable for response rates and any required improvements for caregiver engagement and culture of safety survey.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • BSN required.
  • Master's in Nursing, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration required.

Certifications:

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) License in the current State.
  • Specialty certification in a clinical specialty or related field preferred.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to achieve positive medical staff and specialty physician relationships.
  • Must work effectively with all health care disciplines.
  • Requires independent work, strong customer service and team collaboration skills.
  • Works under pressure and required to meet deadlines, multiple demands and multi-task.
  • Requires flexibility in daily actions and duties.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years increasing experience in management and nursing service administration.
  • Experience managing clinical services in competitive market, enhancing productivity, reducing cost, developing new programs and improving quality.
  • Experience leading nurses and being an advocate for nursing required.
  • CNO level and Academic experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
  • Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
