Cardiac Sonographers use sophisticated diagnostic ultrasound equipment to produce dynamic real-time imaging of the heart's chambers, walls, valves, and great vessels to assist the physician in diagnosing cardiovascular disease. As a Cardiac Sonographer, you will perform diagnostic procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. You will acquire information related to the heart's anatomy and physiology, evaluate acquired and congenital cardiac abnormalities and associated complications and assess narrowed or leaking heart valves.
This position offers opportunities for growth, including eligibility for tuition reimbursement and potential advancement into lead positions across the enterprise.
A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with on-call availability and rotating weekend and holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Set up and adjust all equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform exams.

Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures.

Perform routine and complex studies and assist physicians in a variety of imaging procedures.

Evaluate acquired and congenital cardiac abnormalities and associated complications.

Recognize significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.

Investigate causes of murmurs, chest pain and shortness of breath, track and evaluate chronic heart conditions.

Acquire images during stress echocardiograms and assist with image acquisition in the operating room for valve or device implantation.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor's degree in sonography or vascular technology OR graduate of a cardiac ultrasound program (18-month program) AND/OR two years of full-time echo experience

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from American Heart Association (AHA)

New hires must obtain the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers

OR the Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential from Cardiac Credentialing International within one year of hire date

Demonstrated knowledge of m-mode, 2D and doppler calculations and cardiac hemodynamic

Familiar with computers and ability to learn related programs

Physical Requirements:

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Ability to assist with transport of patients, i.e., pushing beds, stretchers and wheelchairs.

Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.
