When we do everything in service of our patients and caregivers, no detail gets ignored, and Akron General understands that part of staying well is keeping up with nutritional needs. As a Cook, you will cook and prepare a variety of food for patients, caregivers, special events and visitors.
A caregiver in this position works 5:00am – 1:30pm and 10:00am – 6:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Cook and prepare food according to recipes, production sheets and instructions.

Plan the daily production schedule and use of leftovers.

Produce, portion, assemble and deliver items.
-
Check, assemble and maintain supplies, finished products, pre-prepped items, utensils and equipment.

Test or taste food to ensure quality products are produced at correct, safe and quality temperatures.

Deliver prepared food items to appropriate dish up, storage or serving areas.
-
Follow pan size and set up diagrams for service and garnish pans for catering and the cafeteria.

Use equipment, such as a stove, steamer, slow cooker, oven, kettle, slicer, grill, fryer and hot/cold boxes.

Follow proper sanitation procedures, practice proper food handling techniques and the “clean as you go” policy and maintain a clean, sanitized and organized work area.

Follow safety rules, regulations, procedures and directions for equipment and chemicals.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High school graduate or GED.
-
Institutional cooking experience.
-
One year of experience producing quantity.
-
Demonstrated interest, aptitude and ability for cooking.

Knowledge of cooking techniques, procedures, timeframes, temperatures, sanitation and equipment use/cleaning.

Ability to judge food products in quality terms, such as flavor, aroma, consistency, texture and temperature.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work rapidly to meet time deadlines; performs work which requires continuous standing and lifting of materials with high requirements for good eyesight (i.e.
- read recipes judge products) and good arm and hand dexterity in operating equipment and hand preparation.
- Good eye/hand coordination essential.
- Ability to work in hot kitchen around hot equipment and a variety of other potential hazards ranging from spills on floors to sharp cutting equipment (knives slicer).
- Ability to withstand changes in work environment temperatures (hot kitchen to cooler).
- An insensitivity to allergic reactions to required sanitation chemicals gloves food and supplies used and essential to the job.

- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
